- A birth is registered by the Registrar of Births and Deaths of the place where the birth occurred.
- If the birth occurred in a hospital, the Registrar of the place or the person assigned to the hospital must be notified for the registration of the birth.

If the parents are unmarried, both parents must go to the Registrar of Births and Deaths at the hospital where the birth took place to enter the father's information.
- The registration form CR01 required for notification of birth is available from the Registrar of Births and Deaths and can also be downloaded from the website.

- Duly completed registration form CR01
- Report issued by the hospital confirming that the birth took place
- A photocopy of the parents' marriage certificate
- A photocopy of the parents' birth certificates
- Original and photocopy of the national identity card
